Description
Spirit Talker Flutes are hand made by Mark Eades in Nelson, New Zealand. Each flute is hand carved and worked using traditional processes that allow the voice of the flute to resonate with the timbers and with the person it is being made for. A variety of timbers are used including kauri, matai, kahikatea, rimu, walnut, jarrah, ash,Elm,Tawa & cedar.
The flute touches people in ways that heal the soul and sooth the mind, and has touched the heart of many who have heard its voice. My intention is to help keep this beautiful instrument alive and spread the magic it creates in people who play and hear, and feel its grace.
The flutes are shaped by a spoke shaver and sanded by hand. Then tunge and orange oil are used. Shellac is used to seal the final coat, then they are hand polished. Each flute is tuned to Pentatonic scale(440Hz). Mark also tunes some flutes in 432Hz, so if you are interested in this special type of tuning, let him know.
A wide range of timbers are used, including Native NZ timbers such as (swamp) Kauri, Mati, Rimu, Tawa and Kahikatea etc., and other timbers like Cedar, Walnut, Jarra and Teak. Sage is used throughout every stage of making a flute, which takes around two weeks.
